Offset Door Hinges
An offset door hinge against a white background.

Offset Door Hinges (also known as swing-away hinges) basically move the door's pivot point further away from where it's attached. When opened to 90 degrees, the door is set back at least two inches from the doorway, thus enlarging the opening. Such increased clearance often allows for pass-through of wider objects, such as wheelchairs and walkers for persons with disabilities.
