Homemade Water, Mineral, Fly-Control Wagon
When Morrison (IL) farmer Dan Dykstra rotationally grazes the cow herd, his Homemade Water, Mineral, Fly-Control Wagon goes along with them. The wagon (auction-bought four-wheeled New Holland running gear) includes water tank up front, mineral feeder and protein lick tank behind, and fly-control oiler curtain hanging off the rear. To accommodate the feeder and lick tank, Dykstra stretched the frame out a bit and added braces plus angle irons. For the fly-control device, he used steel bracing from an old field cultivator, mounting one piece vertically to the back of the wagon and welding the second as a cross-arm then bolted chains to it to support the oil reservoir and the curtain.
