The Portable Pitless Cattle Guard is a 6-foot-wide by 15- foot-long, horizontal "rack" of steel rails attached to spring-loaded chains and suspended about 4 inches above the ground. Being suspended like that, cattle cannot pass over the guard but a vehicle can, because its weight presses the spring-loaded rack to the ground.
