Seedbed Roller
The Seedbed Roller consists of lobster-trap wire mesh wrapped around four equally spaced cylindrical rollers, a ganging rod, a metal rack, and an adjustable handle. The one-inch-square wire mesh, which is small enough to break up smaller clumps and dirt clods yet large enough to not get clogged, creates a pattern of uniformly spaced mini-furrows that help retain moisture and resist erosion. The rollers are designed to provide a slip differential that prevents plowing up the soil when turning at the end of the row and can be used post-seeding to press the seed firmly into the soil for improved germination. The ganging rod ties the rollers together to preserve spacing for marking rows and dibbling operations. The metal rack on top is available to hold additional weight, if needed. And the handle is adjustable laterally so one can push or pull the tool either in-row or from a parallel footpath.
