Calf-Hauling Crate for ATV
A North Dakota cattleman's Calf-Hauling Crate for ATV (dubbed "the Critter Cage") measures 2 feet wide by 4 feet long by 3 feet high on a frame of 1-inch tubing with metal on the floor and 2 feet up the sides. A metal tube extending out one side slips onto the ATV's (or pickup truck's) receiver hitch. The extra weight on the back of his ATV-i.e., the unit is 60 pounds, the calf about the same-reportedly isn't a problem for the cattleman; however, if one thinks that's too much weight, ballast can be added in the vehicle's front basket. Once safely at the barn, the cattleman keeps the calf in the carrier to give it an ear tag and shots.
