Homemade Rabbit Tractors
Instead of raising his meat rabbits conventionally in cages, Caleb Howerton, of Norwood, MO, raises them on pasture in Homemade Rabbit Tractors (i.e., portable pens) that can be moved every day or so to fresh grass. Howerton built his pens (each measuring 4 feet by 8 feet) using 2"x6" boards for the frame, a cattle panel, chicken wire fastened to 2'x2' welded wire for the structure, an 8-foot-long sheet of tin, which serves as a roof for shade and weather protection, and wire mesh for the floor. At the front end, he made a door from scrap boards, hinges, and extra wire. He also attached to the frame large eye screws through which he runs a rope that's used to pull the pen.
