Retractable Pot Hanger
Woman on left raising potted plant close to room ceiling with retractable pot hanger. Woman on right watering the potted plant that has been lowered by retractable pot hanger.

Usually attached to a ceiling hook or upper-wall bracket, a spring-loaded Retractable Pot Hanger-also called retractable plant hanger, hanging-plant pulley, retractable plant-hook pulley-is a ratcheting pulley-and-hand-brake system that lets one access a suspended planter (or bird feeder, bird house, wind chime, etc.). To lower, one tugs on the device's cord, and the weight of the pot/object causes the spring to unwind and descend it to a convenient level. To raise, pulling again on the cord releases the spring tension, retracting the pot/object back up to its original place. (Available under such brand names as Alsa, Dewel, Easy-Reach, Hilitand, Kaylee, Kitwinney, Lythor, Ogrmar, Riverstone, Tihood.)
